Deterioration of College Athletics

But I have lived to tell the tale.
Every year it's another issue, and I believe that this is the reason why Mercy's athletic program is suffering, because the package for athletes is at its worst and therefore most "skilled" athletes that got turned down from the big named colleges will eventually end up at Mercy.
I have made it through two seasons and now am in my final year and final season (thank God).
The Mercy Volleyball team ended the season with a record of 4-23 and 0-14 in conference play which is the worst it has ever been since I have been here. Last season (2008) we advanced to the playoff's losing to the conference champions Dowling in the quarterfinals.
Another issue is the initiation of a new rule that all athletes MUST have insurance in order to participate. Imagine I have been playing for this school for two years now and in my last year insurance is a requirement.
This I believe is a reason why no top athlete will want to participate in any sports at Mercy.
Participating in a sport at any level means that an athlete has a 60 to 40 percent chance of getting injured. If a student athlete realizes that he/she will have to incur most of the charges for being injured playing for their school, isn't that a reason to turn them away?
International students always adds to the spark of any team but the scholarship package that Mercy offers international students is diminutive and therefore this program will eventually deteriorate.
If we take a look at the 2001 Mercy College Women's Volleyball team who were inducted into the hall of fame in 2008, after making a fourth trip to the NCAA Tournament and fell to Grand Valley State in an epic five game quarterfinal round battle, this team comprised of over four international student athletes who were ranked among the top athletes in the nation.
This proves that the less international student athletes Mercy have the liable possibility of its athletic program decreasing.
I am clearly not saying that Mercy hasn't done anything for me, because they have provided me with an education in Media Studies that I consider comprises of some of the best professors in this profession. I just want to show how Mercy has lowered the standards of athletics which is the backbone of any major college.
With athleticism decreasing the liable improvement of any sports is at minimal and therefore the opportunities of international student athletes grazing the soils of Mercy has and will continue to deteriorate.
