BLOG 1/1 - -Eli Manning has been good for the most part. While he, like the rest of the team, has gone into a bit of a funk these past four weeks, Manning has held up his end of the bargain. He is on pace for a career season, as he has 2,070 yards, 15 Tds, 8 INTs and a quarterback rating of 89.5 and is completing 60% of his passes. Given the Giants defensive woes, he will probably have to step his game up a notch, and he has shown he is capable of that.
-Brandon Jacobs has been largely a disappointment for the Giants this season. He only has two touchdowns in their nine games and is averaging a pedestrian 4.1 yards a carry. He has yet to post a 100 yard game yet, and has been widely criticized for running tentatively. Ahmad Bradshaw has been the best RB on the Giants this year, as he has averaged 5 YPC on 101 carries, and has scored four touchdowns. Hopefully, whatever is the deal with him gets fixed as the Giants get ready to embark on a stretch that will define their season for better or worse.
-Coming into the season, the receivers were considered the biggest issue on this team. They have exceeded expectations and that is putting it lightly. Eli Manning has done a great job forming a camaraderie with these receivers, and they have answered the call in a big way. Steve Smith has 61 catches, 719 yards and 5 Tds, and has been Manning's go to guy in important situations. While Mario Manningham has had issues with the dropsies from time to time, he has been productive with 34 catches for 491 yards, averaging an impressive 14.4 yards a catch and four Tds. You can teach the ability to catch, but you can't teach the ability Manningham has. While Hakeem Nicks has played sparingly he has showed an impressive ability after the catch, and has scored four touchdowns in limited duty.
-The Giants defensive line has been a disappointment. During this four game losing streak, they have offered little resistance while Drew Brees, Donovan McNabb, Kurt Warner and Philip Rivers all picked them apart. I thought the defense as a whole would miss former defensive coordinatoe Steve Spagnuolo, but it's uncanny how the defensive line has almost completely disappeared. There is still time for them to turn it around, but new defensive coordinator Bill Sheridan needs to figure out how to maximize the talents of his deep defensive line.
