As children some of us already knew on Nov. 1 what we wanted to dress up as for next Halloween. You can still remember your favorite costume, your most original outfit, and even the one your mother just had to make for you. The older we became, the less thrilling Halloween became.

Yet late October can still be ghoulishly fun. Here are some Halloween events you can enjoy around the area.

In the mood to really be scared? Try Nightmare: Bad Dreams Come True (CSV Cultural Center, 107 Suffolk St. in New York. The site, hauntedhousenyc.com, details the classic walk-through haunted house that is celebrating its fifth year.

Makers of this event spent the last year polling visitors to their website about their scariest dreams and biggest fears, such as claustrophobia and isolation. They put their take on them and as a result came up with a 45 minute interactive 20 room haunted house.

Tickets are $15 by showing your school ID with the Student Rush Super Haunt. Limit two per person. For VIP treatment and no line to wait on, the cost is $60. Regular admission is $30. The show runs nightly from 6pm-11pm till Nov 8.

Looking for a more secluded, intense haunted house? Try Blood Manor: NYC'S Premiere Haunted Attraction (542 West 27th Street) only permits groups of 6 at a time, no exceptions..

In Blood Manor, the group of six walks through 20 themed rooms; some themes include a haunted labyrinth, a slaughterhouse, and new this year- a 3D stimulating experience.

This Haunted House set in the middle of Chelsea is not for children - there's an age limit of 14. With tight, dark corridors and mazes there is a dress code, and it is not wheelchair accessible. Check out bloodmanornyc.com for more details.

Tickets cost $25, and the show runs nightly from 7 p.m. until 1 a.m. till Nov 1.

If super scary haunted houses isn't your thing and you're looking for a more "family friendly" type of environment, then try The Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze, located 525 Riverside Ave in Croton-on-Hudson.
