I was at home last Friday night, watching the last few minutes of WWE Smackdown (yes, I like wrestling). Then, the ten o'clock news came on.

I normally don't watch the news -- but the fact is that my muscles were sore and my bad knee was killing me from working earlier. I was just too plain lazy to find the remote. I decided to just watch some news, either until I had the courage to get up or the next time I had to pee (Whichever comes first!). Man did it blow!

First of all, this news broadcast decides to reveal the 'Top Story' first. Ok, fine. If only the 'Top Story' was worth it. Apparently another robbery at a bodega in the Bronx was the 'Top Story'. Excuse me, but how is this news again? I'm not saying that people getting injured are not important but how many robberies and murders and such do we see and hear of each day? We have people dying in Iraq and a presidential election going down and you give us another robbery?

I don't want to sound hypocritical since I am in fact writing for a newspaper, but where is the real news? I had a discussion with my boyfriend about this question that night. The news is all propaganda. We all know without anyone telling us that there are shooting, murders, and robberies occurring each day in the world. The reason why it is portrayed as bloody 'Top News' is strictly because the government wants America to feel afraid.

People can be easily controlled through their emotions and that is exactly what they are trying to do to us. How can you mess around easily with someone's emotions? You make them frightened. Do you honestly think that out of all the events in the area and the world that day that another robbery is 'Top News'? Honestly people, think about it.

People consider America a free land where we can live our lives but how much freedom do we have? We definitely do not have the freedom to hear what the news is. Why does the government want to control everything so much? Would it kill us to know if there are UFO's (which there are, don't be fooled)? Or how the government really works? My answer --No it wouldn't.

It would only make this country and its people much smarter, giving them a new perspective on things.

I want you to just think hard and take a look at everything around you and see the propaganda in every situation. The government tries to control not only our actions, but our minds too. I'm one girl who definitely does not fall for any of this.
