Mercy's newest club, the Intensified Image dance team is now set and ready to take the dance floor.
The president and treasurer, Jasmine Blount, came up with the idea of this new sensational dance team to bring students together as whole. "I felt that Mercy didn't have any real school spirit, and I wanted to do something to unify our students," said Blount.
Out of the 22 who tried out, 11 of the dancers constituted the team, including Blount and two other co-captains, Marisha Craig and Devolia Welborn. "This is a very hard-working and diverse team of dancers," said Blount.
The Intensified Image dance team is one of the few clubs that is all female, very diverse, composing of dancers from many backgrounds, ranging in age from 18 to 23. They are comprised of students who attend the Dobbs Ferry, Bronx and Manhattan campuses.
According to Welborn, "We all get along well. We're like one big happy family. Everyone's open minded with a positive attitude. Overall, we're just a very good team of females!"
Hopefully at the end of October, these dancers are set to start out with performance if Mercy holds its annual talent show. But don't take these dancers too lightly because that's just a start.
They're aimed at performing during halftime at the men's and women's basketball games this season and seasons to come.

"We want to be taken seriously," said Blount. "We will perform. Not just at Mercy events, but at other events too!"
In December, Intensified Image is looking forward to performing at Fredrick Douglas Academy High School's talent show called the Festival of Lights to celebrate the holidays.
"It's a very intense and competitive talent show. Many young, talented teams performed there," said Blount, who once attended the school and performed there in the past.
Not only will they be just performing, but they also will be doing a series of fund raisers to gain money for their venture. According to Blount "We'll be conducting multiple bake sales throughout the year and even try to have auctions and car washes as other means to raise money."
While the groups consist of just women currently, that does not mean that men are not excluded from the group. There were men interested, but Blount said that some could not participate because they are already participating in Mercy athletics.
"Men are available to try out," she said. "The dance team is not just for women. We have dances for men too."
