It's not Halloween without the Boogie Man. And in 1978, John Carpenter brought the Boogie Man to life on the screen in his breakthrough horror film which spawned multiple sequels.
Six-year-old Michael Audrey Myers silently removes a butcher knife from his mother's kitchen drawer. While the other boys and girls Michael's age are prancing around the local neighborhood searching for candy, Myers is planning a cerebral attack on his loved ones. Michael slips on his vintage, pale white Halloween mask and is ready for brutality…
Carpenter's Halloween was made with a $350,000 budget and relied on suspense as opposed to gore. It grossed $47 million at the box office. It made Jamie Lee Curtis the queen of the horror movies. And that infamous mask of Myers (which according to Hollywood legend was made from an imprint of William Shatner's face) has petrified fright fans for over 25 years.
Yahoo.com conducted a "Best Summer Movie Hollywood Villain" contest, Myers finished third, only behind Voldemort and Lucius Malfoy of Harry Potter fame.
The legend of Michael Myers began in a small town in Middle America…Haddonfield, Illinois. He grew up with two sisters, one older (Judith), one younger (Laurie Ann). He was raised like any other little boy. He had normal school experiences, friends, and never had any episodes of violence. However, things turned unusual when Michael turned six. He started to develop traits of autism, losing his major speech and social interaction skills. No medical examination was done on Michael until after his unimaginable actions on Oct. 31, 1963.
Michael brutally murdered his older sister Judith in their own home, showing no signs of sadness, anger, or malice afterwards. Michael was immediately sent to Dr. Sam Loomis, a child psychiatrist. His mother and father frequently visited Michael during his treatment, but were killed in a car accident soon after. Michael visited Loomis for over a decade afterwards, until Loomis finally decided all his efforts were fruitless.
Michael's younger sister Laurie Ann, who was put up for adoption, was the only member of Michael's family still alive at this point. Michael's whole life mission now was to kill the only remaining link to his bloodline. This is where the major plots of the Halloween films are derived from, the search for his younger sister, Laurie Ann.
