Dowling Avenges '04 Soccer Loss

Two years straight, the men's soccer team faced Dowling College in beyond meaningful games.
Last season, Mercy won the New York Athletic Conference (NYCAC) Tournament, crowning them as the league champions as the four best teams from the regular season battled for the championship, with Mercy defeating Dowling College in the finals.
Mercy and Dowling were once again both in the mix this season and faced off Nov. 2 in a NYCAC semi-finals rematch.
After regulation was over, both teams were in a scoreless deadlock, which led to overtime.
After one overtime period expired, the game was still scoreless. Both teams went scoreless going into the second overtime, and both came out of it the same way.
In the regular season, this would have lead to a tie, but these men were not fighting for a regular season victory, they were fighting for a chance to advance in the NYCAC Tournament, which meant the game had to be decided by a shoot-out.
After the eleventh round of penalty kicks was over, so was Mercy's season.
Dowling will look to accomplish what Mercy did last season and in doing so, they may have gotten a little bit of redemption for last years elimination.
