Satisfied and progress are just two words in which Coach Darryl Bullock described in his overall assessment of his cross country team, saying, "On balance I am satisfied with the progress we made as individuals and as a team."
He said that his core runners performed "solidly" however he also pointed out that he would like to see more consistency on a weekly basis.
Bullock said that they need to recruit female distance runners. However, the women's team seemingly has quite a bit of promise, as it has Katelyn Klobus. Bullock stated that the freshman runner, Klobus, "has the talent to become one of the top three female runners ever to don a Mercy uniform."
As far as the men's team goes, Bullock said, "Every male runner established or lowered a personal best time in the five mile distance." He also said that junior Miguel Reyes ran not only a personal, but a team best in the five mile at 26 minutes and 20 seconds, which Bullock pointed out was the fourth best time in Mercy's history in five miles.
"We essentially accomplished what we sought." However he also stated, "I would have liked to move up another team place at conference meet." Adding, "and we will."
He said that without a doubt the biggest highlight was their performance at the IC4A/ECAC Championship at Van Cortlandt, which was their last event of the season. Bullock called their performance "masterful."
It was the first time that Mercy has ever been at the IC4A cross country event.
Reyes finished 81 of 186 beating out 105 others runners.
Looking forward to next year, he said, "(He is) Looking to be among top three teams both men's and women's at NYCAC Championships; possibly earn an individual men's championship and continue to make progress in lowering times."
