"She has been a big part of the program for the last four years. On the field, besides being a strong player, she has been a good role model for the younger players," Assistant Athletic Director Drew Brown said.
He continues to say, "She has been an inspiration to the other female athletes."
Levasseur is one of Mercy's brightest student-athletes as well, carrying a 3.7 grade point average. She is a behavioral science major and earning an English minor.
According to an April 11 Mercy press release, "Levasseur has distinguished herself throughout her career both on and off the field to make an impact on the lives of others. In 2006, she volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, traveling to New Orleans with a group of students and staff from Mercy College during spring break to assist in the rebuilding process of homes following Hurricane Katrina. This spring ,she was selected for United Way's Alternative Spring Break, which also helped to rebuild the Gulf Coast, but was unable to participate as she had to tend to family matters.
Levasseur's impact can be felt in the campus community and extended local community as each year she has assisted with and contributed to Mercy's Blood Drive. She has also served as a volunteer soccer coach at The Masters School, a local high school in Dobbs Ferry, and served on the Student Provost Search Committee in 2006."
According to the same press release, "She has served as team captain, is a resident assistant in the dormitory, and was named to the East Coast Conference Fall Sports Honor Roll." Levasseur is currently serving on the campus chair on the senior gift committee for the class of 2007.
She likes the fact that in Mercy College "everyone knows each other and if you want to, you can make a difference and make a positive change."
As far as her tenure goes, she says, "It's been a very big thrilling experience." She came to Mercy out of North Delta High School and said she has made lifelong friends.
Lavasseur also played softball during her freshman year. Now, she helps out the team.
Lavasseur enjoys playing soccer. "The team is like a family, even though they did not win much." Despite the losses, she said, "Even though we didn't win a lot, the team has worked hard."
Brown says, "Athletically, she knows the game of soccer and plays it well."
Although Brown has only known her for a year, he said "She always shows initiative and when help is needed she is always there and takes her leadership to another level."
When asked about grades, she said, "I enjoy English and I have really excelled in my Mercy English Classes."
In 2004, she led the Flyers soccer team with seven points. She recorded three goals including a game winning goal and a penalty kick. In 2005, she started all 11 games for Mercy and recorded an assist.
Outside of school, she says she enjoys playing pool and hanging out with friends. She will be attending graduate school at Mercy College in the summer for English Literature.
