Movie: "Children of Men"
Based on a P.D. James science-fiction novel, "Children of Men" is a futuristic look at humanity on the brink of extinction. Women have lost the ability to give birth and so the human race is in peril. In the midst of this chaos, one solitary pregnant woman emerges, and it is the mission of a disillusioned bureaucrat (Clive Owen) and a woman from his past (Julianne Moore) to shepherd her to a secret organization desperately searching for the key to restore fertility to the population.
Release Date: Dec. 25
Book: "Terror in the Name of God" by Jessica Stern
Author Jessica Stern has spent the last four years interviewing extremist members of the Christian, Jewish, and Muslim religions. Throughout her travels and interviews, she has discovered that terrorist organizations who use religion as both motivation and justification (from Islamic jihad to Christian fundamentalist bombers) are almost disturbingly similar. Stern's interesting and important take on manipulated religion as terror makes for a book that is thought-provoking and crucial for this day in age.
Release Date: October 2006
Single: "What Goes Around…" - Justin Timberlake
After two computerized novelty (and number one on the Billboard Hot 100 List) releases, Timberlake gets back to the slow, soul jams with "What Goes Around…", a breakup song to the woman he lost. Although it's a completely different sound from his first two number one singles off his newest LP, "Future Sex/Love Sounds", "What Goes Around…" should make it three in a row for Timberlake.
Release Date: Mid-December 2006
Hot Item of the Month: The Nintendo Wii
The newest edition in Nintendo's long line of video game consoles, the Wii's most distinguishing new factor is its remote control, combining (for the first time) cardio exercise with video gaming. The remote can detect motion and rotation in three dimensions-gone are the days of sore thumbs from handheld controls. It's backward compatible with all Nintendo GameCube software, but comes with an awesome array of games, including bowling, boxing, golf, tennis and baseball (that are all quite the workout!). It's worth all the hype, and it's definitely the hottest item of the month.
