It's been a very enjoyable year for the fans of the Mercy track and field team as they have watched many of the Mercy track players set new records during the season.
The first venue where the Flyers first started their year of setting new records was at the Colgate games, which started in November of last year. The Colgate Games took place at the New Balance Track and Field Center that is located at the military armory on 168 Street in Manhattan.
Freshman Katlin Klobus, praised by her Coach Darryl Bullock as a very consistent runner, set a new record for the female 800 meter race with a new time of 2 minutes and 43 seconds.
Another female competitor that had a great personal accomplishment was senior Melissa Lisbona, who finished fifth in the Colgate Games shot-put competition and was able to advance to the finals at Madison Square Garden. She finished third in the shot-put competition.
During the fall season, the male squad was also successful in setting new records, as junior Miguel Reyes set a new men's 800 meter running time, by defeating the old mark by 1.5 seconds with a new time of 1 minute and 59 seconds. The record setting season continued in the second half for the Flyers as they set many new records as well. One particular event that the Flyers had great success in was the CTC outdoor championship that was hosted by DeSales University. At this event, Klobus continued her record setting year, as she lowered her own 800 meter school record with a finishing time of 2 minutes and 38 seconds. Reyes continued his excellence as he placed third overall in the men's meet, as he set a new school record of a time of 1 minute and 57 seconds.
Reyes said of his success, "It's a team effort and my success is the team's success".
At the same event, junior Shadrac St. Louis was also a new record maker as he set a personal best and new school record in the triple jump competition, with a jump of 12.52 meters.
With all the success of the Flyers this year, Bullock says that he wants his athletes "to be the very best person that they could be on and off the track."
