Dear Mercy College Students,

I am writing to assure you that the college is moving forward with its plans to improve the Mercy College experience for all students, plans that include enhancing student services and activities at all five campuses. We have streamlined student services, so that applying for financial aid, paying bills and registering will be a coherent and clear process. We have changed the way campuses are managed, to clarify roles and to improve responsiveness to student needs. And we will hire a new Dean of Student Affairs to strengthen the development and implementation of coordinated student activities and oversee the management of the residence hall and the athletics programs.
We have made many changes in a short time. It is important that the community understand that the changes that are taking place are necessary for the College to remain vibrant and vital. Our aim is not simply to cut costs or people, but to improve service, train staff in a more intentional way, and meet higher standards of student service and academic excellence going forward.
To achieve our goals, while keeping our tuition low, Mercy College must become-and remain-lean, effective, and responsive. I have repeated this message many times over the last year, and it is no less true today. I do not expect that the process of change will be easy. But I do expect that Mercy will emerge a stronger and more focused institution, better able to serve students effectively while using all of our human and financial resources wisely.
I know that our students, faculty and staff are deeply committed to this institution, as am I. I also know that reorganization and restructuring are never pleasant or popular. But I am convinced they are necessary for the long term health of this institution, which serves a fundamental need in the lives of our students and our communities.
Our commitment to students is to continuously improve the way we serve your needs, so that your time and energy can be focused on your primary goal-your Mercy College education.
- Louise H. Feroe
President
