It was on July 1, 2004 when John Flaherty stepped up to the plate at Yankee Stadium against the Boston Red Sox in the bottom of the 13th inning. In a heated 4-4 game, Flaherty clobbered a game winning ground-rule double to score Miguel Cairo, beating the Red Sox by a margin of 5-4, and sending the Yankee fans home with smiles on their faces.

Despite losing in the ECC quarterfinal playoff game, the lady Mavericks basketball team had a rewarding rebuilding season and is confident in its abilities for the upcoming years.
"I was satisfied with how the season played out," said coach Ashlee Kelly, who recently completed her third year as the women's basketball coach.

Coming off a last place finish in the ECC in 2008, the Mavericks baseball squad is looking forward to a successful campaign in 2009.
Coach Bill Sullivan, who is entering his 15th year as the Mavericks' head baseball coach, is anticipating the performance of his newcomers as well as the continued success of the veterans.
