The Impact News

As of February of 2007, the Impact Staff will update its section entitled "Impact Staff Blogs" every Monday while Mercy Classes are in attendance. It is part of our new mission to keep you reading! (and keep us writing…) So what is a Blog? A blog is actually a term derived from "Web Log" that was eventually merged into one word.

MARCH 18 - Recently I have discovered something that has literally taken over my life. It has kept me away from my friends and family. It has made me slacking on my school work. No it's not drugs or alcohol, it's a saga. A Twilight Saga. While eating breakfast, in-between classes, before bed, even right now writing this, knowing that I only have a few more chapters to finish the third saga Eclipse, I am dying to just get back to the book.

MARCH 19 - War. It is brutal, violent, and oftentimes senseless. We have seen that most recently with the present war on Terrorism/Iraq. To limit the cruelty and brutality associated with war, often in the past man has created certain ways to protect his soldiers, from armor to projectile weapons.

MARCH 19 - I'm always looking to for different ways to hack the system. By hack, I don't mean their network, or infrastructure. By hack, I mean I try to find loop holes to have The Man work for me, instead of the other way around. I have learned of a few ways to get money off The Man.

Every couple has their share of squabbles, but when a married father of eight kids, two dogs and a new $ 1.3 million home, is found lingering at the local bar flirting with college girls, problems and rumors arise. TLC's hit reality show, Jon and Kate plus 8, have captured the hearts of millions around the world.

March 15 - "I had a great time last night. My date and I went to have dinner and then we saw the movie but I haven't seen or heard from him in three weeks," my friend Rebecca once told me. It's so funny how women are not aware when a guy just wants to have a good time rather than when he intends to have a relationship.

As bad as the economy is affecting everyone, it seems that little steps that could potentially help big companies simply are not being taken. Instead, some of these companies are doing the exact opposite and thinking only of themselves. Recently, I got a letter in the mail.

Feb. 10 - I sat there like most Americans with my eyes glued to the television on that bitter Tuesday morning, that unforgettable Tuesday where most of us will remember exactly where we were for the duration of our lives, much like our parents during the JFK assassination.

Feb. 17 - Can you believe that there is a place where there is neither summer nor winter, neither autumn nor spring? But days that are filled with lovely sunshine and a little rain. Yes, Jamaica. Jamaica, Jamaica - oh how I miss you so much. I keep picturing the beautiful sunset meeting far away on the shimmering blue water.

I never thought when I began writing for the Impact that I would become the sports editor. When I started writing for the paper in the spring of 2008, I was just helping out. Nobody asked me to write for the Impact, or made me do it, but I think I did it solely because I was expected to; I want to be a journalist and I needed to get going.

Jan. 31 - Every American is currently aware of the economic crisis that plagues the United States and it is apparent that there is no single person that can find their way around it. People have become frugal due to the rollercoaster that Wall Street has turned into and the only hope for the American people is politicians; not the best case scenario for the average citizen.

Feb. 5 - Cris Carter was thought to be a Hall of Fame lock. Apparently not. Amazing numbers. Great leader. Elite career. One of the greatest possession receivers of all time. Kind of scary to think that he has more catches than EVERY player in the NFL Hall of Fame (Jerry Rice isn't eligible until 2010).

FEB. 11 - Just in case you've forgotten, Valentine's Day is this Saturday. It is the season for romance, love and friendship. There's always that rush for getting a table at your favorite restaurant, buying your loved one flowers, candy and cards, all the mushy stuff expected this time of year.

Feb. 11 - The economy is well on its way down the tubes, there has been an official change in power, and people are starving for things to get better. So President Obama went and did the one thing that will undoubtedly stimulate the economy and pushed back the date in which television will go digital.

Feb. 8 - I see it everyday in the grocery store where I work, in people's faces I don't know, the commercials on TV. Change how you look, change your body, be thin, be beautiful. The message is always the same. "You're not good enough as you are now, so change it.

The topic of professional athletes being viewed as role models has long been in dispute. A role model is supposed to be someone whose behavior can be emulated. When you are a child it is hard not to look up to these seemingly invincible characters. They are larger than life and they can do amazing things no ordinary person can.
